Hi everyone.

I'm thinking about going to Tunesia this summer. I've never been there before. Can someone tell me which city or cities I should go to and why?

Is there any gaylife in Tunesia, for example clubs that are populair with gays?

Is Tunesia a bit the same like Morocco or are there many differences?

Thank youuu.

In Tunisia, as in all arab countries, homosexuality is forbidden but largely practised. If you are discreet nobody bothers you. So, an apartment is better than an hotel. You should go to Susah (160 km south of Tunis). There you will easily find beaches, cafés, discos and promenades popular with gays. And in Susah you are at the center of the country, from there you can try a trip to the deep south, if you like.

Thanks for the information! I will do some searching on google about Susah. I never heard of that city before. Can you tell me a bit about the place?

If anyone else has any tips or advices on Tunesia I would love to hear it.

I just found out that I did hear about that city before, but that I know it by another name: Sousse, instead of Susah.

I'm wondering how I can book an appartment there. I've seen some appartments for rent but they're all very touristic, the kind with a dinner buffet and singers and stuff which is not the kind of appartment I would like to end up in.. Any tips on appartments perhaps?

Susah (or Sousse in french) is 160 south oh Tunis. You can arrive at Monastir airport (15 km). In the touristic area (10 km of beaches and hotels) you can find all the boys you want. They are all interested in meeting a stranger. They think all strangers are rich, but it is quite easy to find a nice and kind boy, not only interested in presents. Many boys are whores, especially in the "corniche" at the center of the town; avoid them, if you are looking for some romance. Anyway, don't pay they too much (10 euros will do the business). Don't have sex in open areas, rent an apartment. I will be there in July, if you need some help...

No tips on apartments, sorry. I live outside the touristic area, in an arabic district in front of the sea. Here there are apartments on rent but i do not know if the area suits you. You could choose an horel for some days, and then look for an apartment. There are many residences with apartments. Gays are usually welcome. In july - august it will cost you around 25-30 euros a day. Bye

Thanks again. I did some reading on Sousse and I'm not 100% sure if I want to go there, because I think it's very touristic and I guess that besides the beaches there's not much to see and do. I could be wrong of course. Perhaps there's more to see and do in Tunis? Would you say that Tunis is 'less gay' than Sousse?

I will continue to read more about Tunesia. I read about hammam Zriba and I would like to visit it: http://lexicorient.com/tunisia/hammam_zriba.htm

Perhaps I should add that I will be travelling by myself. That way I can have all the sex that I can get, and make new friends more easily as well.

And perhaps I should also add that I like going to the beach, but that I get kinda depressed when going to the beach is all there is to do. I usually prefer cities/capitals, but the combination city/beach is perfect I think. From what I understand Tunis is the capital of Tunesia and it is at the coast. This is why it sounds more interesing to me than Sousse. But again, I could be wrong about this. There might be plenty to do in Sousse as well.

Hi, i am just trying to assist you, if you fly into monastir airport you are only a short drive from the costal town itself, there is a marina there with many holiday apartments surrounding it, not expensive and with many cafes along the harbour, good for cruising plus along the sea front in the evening. 10 euro is enough for most things. if you take people back to your apartment you have the small problem of them calling round during your stay thinking that "they are your one friend for your entire holiday" which most people dont want, dont fall for the story's of "i need money for the hospital as my mum is ill" etc, on the whole a really nice country, good & friendly people and loads of "fun " if that what you enjoy.

LOL. Yeah I see what you mean, but I don't think there is a way to avoid the problem of people coming back once they have been in the appartment. The same thing happens here in my house haha.

I have only positive experiences of Tunisian guys. I've been together with one for 15 years. We broke up 2 years ago.He is married with children now,but we are still friends. I have an Tunisian lover now that I now for long time.He is single now,he is divorced & have 2 children.Have many Tunisian friends both women & men. They all accepted me as homosexual. You should try to meet & it is easy, but of course be careful there are some in it for money or business as they call it.You can meet everywere. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for the tips and warnings guys. I appreciate it a lot. Keep them coming :D

I still haven't decided where I want to go in Tunesia. I guess I'm going to have to do a little more reading about the country before I decide. But that's okay because I still have some time to think it over. Has anyone here been to Tunis? What's that city like? Are the beaches there nice?

A few years ago, I stayed with the brother of a Tunisian friend who lives here, on the outskirts of Sousse. My dilemma was that Sousse is indeed too touristy for my tastes & full of rent [many poor people come to Sousse from the countryside] whereas, where I was staying, was more appealing but, unlike the centre of town, very few of the men there spoke anything other than Arabic - as most people in the UK, they learn some French at school but, unless they work with tourists, they don't speak it much & have almost no English. Also, they are less comfortable there talking to foreigners - partly because, being local, they are afraid of what their neighbours will think of them but also because the law prohibits them from approaching tourists. This is ironic as the law is supposedly intended to reduce the hassle faced by tourists but those it is aimed at [eg salesmen & rent in the centre] largely ignore it!

Also, the brother I was staying with had to register that I was staying with him with the local police station to avoid problems.

Be warned also that there are many plain-clothed around, posing as rent.

Although I had only limited experience of hammaams in the outskirts of Sousse, I found the men much more inhibited than those in Moroccan hammaams, finding no hint of actions though, in the cafes, my host's straight friends would often tease each other about being tired because of what they'd been up to. Although my impression was that the vast majority of men [even overtly 'religious' ones] there do have sex with other men at one time or another they wouldn't dream of discussing this with even their closest friends. I saw only one 'gay' [ie passive] man [pointed out to me one night] although, statistically, as many avoid tourists, this doesn't add up. Also, be warned that, at least 4yrs ago, they didn't seem to want to use condoms, thinking they were 'safe' because they didn't have sex with foreigners - even though they wanted to have sex with me!
