Going to Tanger

Hi.
I am going to Tanger for the 15th of July.
It will be nice to meet gays in Tanger and surrounding areas.
I'm bassically intersted in meeting people, and get to know the gay life in Morocco.
Obviously anything else could happen but that would be a plus and nothing else.
So it will be excellent to meet intersting people above everything else.:)

Lucky you! Morocco is beautiful, Tanger is very nice. I don't know if you have been in Morocco before but it's quite easy to meet guys there. It's enough to just walk in the streets, the guys will just approach you. At least that's what happened to me. Moroccans generally aren't exactly shy, lol.

Are you travelling by yourself or with friends? I went there by myself (I sometimes prefer to travel alone) and met some great Moroccan people, and I don't mean just for sex (although I met those too ;)). I mean friendly and fun people who like to hang out and go out with you, show you around, and help you in any way they can. One of those people was even a girl, lol. It turned out that she loved to hang out with gay guys. I had so much fun with her, and with her friends of which most were gay, of course, ahahaha. It was very interesting to get to know the Moroccan gay culture, or at least to learn more about it. I had some great conversations with people. I've learned from them and they've learned from me. I've been in Tanger for only a few days, two years back. I liked it, but I'm not sure if I would have wanted to stay a lot longer. It seemed to me that there wasn't a whole lot to do over there. I don't think Tanger has a gaylife really. I didn't notice it.. It wasn't summer when I was there, I bet Tanger is a lot more fun during summertime. It's also more crowded during summertime.

You didn't mention how long you are staying in Morocco and if you've been in Morocco before. If you have the chance: take the nighttrain from Tanger to Marrakech and stay there as long as you can. The train is cheap and it'll take you about 10 hours to travel across the country, but if you take the nighttrain you can sleep and by the time you wake up you'll be in the south of Morocco, in Marrakesh. I can assure you that you would have a great time there. I can't imagine anyone not having a great time there. Marrakech is a lot more gay than Tanger. I think it's because many gays from Morocco visit Marrakech during weekends, holidays, etc. It's known as the gay city of Morocco, more or less.

There are also some very very nice gay'ish bars and clubs in Marrakech. Eventhough those places aren't called gay bars or gay clubs, everyone who goes there is aware of what's going on over there, and the crowds are very mixed (gay, lesbian, straight men and women, transgender men(?) and women(?), richer and poorer people, male and female prostitutes too). Personally I liked the mixed crowds A LOT. It felt very real to me, like society almost. I never experienced anything like it before. Not that way. Bars and clubs in Europe as I know them are usually either very gay or very straight. For me the mixed crowds were perfect. I'm gay but that doesn't mean that I need to be between gay men all the time. In fact, I'm usually more attracted to straight and bi guys than to gay guys so for me those places felt like paradise, lol. Especially because plenty of straight/bi men overthere don't mind cruising gay guys. I don't really like being among guys only which is what it's usually like in European gay bars, I like girls too (no, not for sex). Girls are fun and great to be with I think.

Morocco has it all. There wasn't much that I didn't like about Morocco. Nothing that I want to metion now anyway. I felt right at home over there. I almost get a feeling of homesickness thinking back about it. Of course being gay and Moroccan and also living in Morocco cannot be easy. But it was good to see that gay people overthere are able to have so much fun, despite the difficulties that they have with their sexuality.

I didn't have a clue about Morocco's gay life before I went there. And frankly I couldn't believe my eyes when I visited those Marrakech 'gay bars and clubs' for the first time. I had no idea that gay'ish bars and clubs even existed in Maroc and neither did most of the Moroccan guys that I know from here. Besides the great gaylife in Marrakech, the city itself is also a lot more interesting than Tanger if you ask me. There's more to do, more to see, and the atmosphere is very special, it's pure magic. But again, during the summer time you'll probable have a lot of fun in Tanger too. Some day I want to visit Tanger again and I'm gonna make sure that it will be in the summer.
